Course Description

Join us for a conversation with Aricia Shaffer, MSE, Master Career Strategist, on ageism in the workplace. Too often, ageism is viewed through the lens of compliance (i.e., anti-discrimination) or focused on the experiences of older employees. However, age-related biases impact professionals of all ages. Ageism subtly and overtly influences behaviors and interactions in the workplace in several ways, including assumptions and expectations employees and managers have about each other's capabilities, interpersonal and team dynamics, and decision-making processes, and can even affect career progression opportunities. Challenging and changing these ingrained behaviors and attitudes requires a concerted effort. With five generations currently in the workforce, fostering an environment where everyone is valued for their distinct contributions is not just beneficial—it's essential.

Organizations championing age diversity are better positioned to attract and retain top talent, benefiting from the rich tapestry of experiences and perspectives a multigenerational workforce offers. In this session, explore the stereotypes, perceptions, and beliefs that shape our policies, practices, and cultural norms within our workplaces. We will unpack these age-related biases, discuss strategies for building inclusive workplace cultures, and examine how embracing age diversity can drive innovation and growth. This webinar aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to advocate for and implement change in their organizations.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize ageism in professional settings and its impact on organizational culture

  • Identify the intersectionality of age with other identities and its consequences for workplace diversity and inclusion

  • List practical strategies to challenge age-related stereotypes and promote cross-generational collaboration
