While tax rates may be decreasing for certain taxpayers, tax enforcement and collection efforts are ratcheting up. The IRS and the states, including New York, are becoming increasingly aggressive both in conducting audits and in their efforts to collect delinquent taxes. This presentation will discuss audit and collection topics including traditional collection efforts such as tax liens, bank levies, and installment payments as well as more recent efforts by New York and other states to suspend taxpayer driver licenses as well as the new IRS passport revocation program and third-party debt collection programs. Participants will learn the latest enforcement trends and how taxpayers can avoid these pitfalls and get into tax compliance.
