Course Description

If investments are the fuel that drives retirement success, actively monitoring investments is the tune-up required to power a sound retirement. Investing is a dynamic process where small market ripples can set off major changes across a portfolio. That is why keeping a finger on the pulse of your portfolio is essential. Closely monitoring investments can generate more wealth or avert losses, both important in retiring right.

Additionally, markets can be volatile and unpredictable, and regular monitoring builds an invaluable quality for investors: the EQ (emotional intelligence).

Terri McGray, CFP, and AIF will explain why this is about more than knowing the numbers. Investing well requires a certain perspective to avoid being overly confident or too worried about cyclical changes. Terri will address return expectations that could now be considered shooting for the moon and ultimately lead to disappointing outcomes, including delayed retirement. She will also demonstrate how her firm professionally benchmarks portfolios to optimize return potential, and how you can follow a similar strategy to play an active part in achieving your rate of return target.

Learning Objectives:

  • Determine how overconfidence and inexperience can cause you to overshoot reasonable expectations and may result in significant hardship for your retirement

  • Recognize how investment monitoring helps produce more productive outcomes

  • Give examples of how different classes interconnect

  • Measure how weak or strong returns can vary within the markets and within historical cycles

  • Recognize how benchmarking shifts the mindset to productive, more emotionally intelligent investment monitoring
